If the mists appear in the forest meadows after a thunderstorm, the inhabitants of Schömberg and the surrounding regions say: “The little shrub women travel home.” The “little shrub women” are part of the forest spirits:] The dwarves, nixies, kobolds, elves and so forth who used to dwell on the Tannenlehne, the Grüner Berg, the Stritt, and other mountains. However, for some reason these spirits must have soured on staying on these mountains, for one day each and every one of them moved away from there. But before they did so, they wanted to provide something to this region to remember them by. After long consideration, they decided to give all starlings present in this area a white color. Since the forest spirits left, it is possible from time to time to see white starlings in Schömberg and the surrounding lands, which supposedly are descended from those mentioned above.
