If a child is born with a caul, it is said that they are an Unhîr (Bütow) or an Unhuer (Fürstenthum). If such an Unhîr dies, they first fetch everyone they are related to. Then they will go to the church bell and strike it. And then all people will die as far as this sound can be heard. The mother can prevent this disaster by burning the caul to powder and then instill it to the child together with the milk.
Even in death, the Unhîr is easily recognized by those well-versed in such matters. For their corpse looks fresh and rosy, as if the person still had life in them. Those who know how to act to their best advantage in such a situation will put a fishnet, money, a wagon stanchion, and more such things into the coffin so that these items will accompany them into the ground. The dead one will then have to work with these objects, and thus cannot feast after the living. Old people will also shout after the Unhîr in mockery: “Once you have unknotted the net, you may come and fetch us!” But they know very well that it is impossible to untie all the knots in a fishnet within a single night.
