It is a marvelous thing to own an earth mirror. It is rare that someone manages to attain a real one, but only a few people who own it are able to make use of it. If they are not born on a Golden Sunday in the twelfth hour under a very rare sign, even the best earth mirrors will be of no use to them. But whoever is born in such circumstances will be able to see whatever it is they want to attain. However, they need to align the mirror towards a church in which St. John the Baptist of God rests.

There are several differences in both usage and invocation between an earth mirror, which is fashioned out of a round metal disk, and a mountain mirror, which is made out of a matula which in turn contains a strongly blessed holy water receptacle. The latter is generally held to be the better one. A rich farmer, who lives far to the south of Munich (near Haag) doesn’t only have such a mirror, but he was also born under the right circumstances and thus can accomplish unbelievable things. He has a huge reputation within the entire Lechrain, and thus there is a steady stream of numerous people came to him with all sorts of pressing problems.

A farmer near Landsberg was the owner of a large herd of sheep. He had been largely happy with his lot in life, but in the year ‘51 he had a dispute with one of his shepherds, and drove him away. The latter now cursed the luck of the farmer, and a great dying came over his herd. But he did not believe in this curse for a long time, sought explanations in natural causes, went from one veterinary to the next, and tried to treat half his herd with their methods. Frequently, up to 20 animals expired in a single day.

Then in his desperation, he finally went to the farmer in Albach. When he arrived in his distress, and with a lot of misgivings about the help he sought, the other one immediately addressed him. “You don’t need to be so sad, little farmer man! I saw your arrival yesterday. I can help you. During your absence, only one sheep will die, and I shall give you something with which everything will be put right — if you use it correctly and trust in God.” For the farmer was a very Christian man, kept far away from the black arts, did not accept any payment, and only asked that the people he helped gave alms to the poor. When the little farmer man returned home, everything was just as it had been promised to him. And when he applied the cure he had taken with him, he found that his sheep were soon as healthy as before.
