There are people who have no peace in the grave when they die. They then step out of the coffin and pull other people after them. They do this for nine years, and they fetch a victim each year. For this reason, they are commonly called “Neuntöter” (“Nine Slayer”, Naejendoeder, Naejadoera). They are not just known among humans but also among animals. And because they cause such vast amounts of damage, “Neuntöter” is the worst insult that anyone can take into their mouths.

A Neuntöter once died in Meesow, in the district of Regenwalde. It was discovered that each of the nine victims he had fetched after himself had a bloodstain on their stocking, which was no larger than a pinhead in size. Otherwise, none of them had any sign of injury.

(Oral tale from the Fürstenthum and Regenwalde districts.)
