Around the time of Martin Luther, there was a young student in Erfurt who had fallen deeply in love with a maiden. He sought the advice of one of his comrades who knew the magical arts. And this comrade promised him that, as long as he refrained from hugging her, he would make the beloved maiden appear before him with his arts. The young student then promised him to do so.

Subsequently, the maiden indeed entered the chamber of the student, and acted very lovely and friendly towards him. When her would-be lover saw her, he became mad with joy. And because he was unable to restrain himself, he wrapped the maiden he loved into his arms. However, she soon collapsed to the ground before him and was dead, which horrified both him as well as the attendant magician.

Eventually, the latter managed with his arts that the Devil agreed to animate this corpse. With his help, she went home and returned to her usual chores. But she maintained a deathly pale color and no longer spoke a single word. After three days of this, the parents of the girl summoned many clerics to their home. As these spoke towards the maiden in all seriousness, the Satan left the corpse, and the latter dropped dead and stank.
